Crazy Jeep trip across Nevada

These guys at jeepbrokers.com put together a big road trip in a 1948 Willy’s Jeep that covered ten states in the west this year. All in all, they plan on covering a little bit each year until they have traveled through all 48 of the contiguous states. They are doing the trips to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization set up to “honor and empower wounded warriors.” Nevada happened to be a part of their 2008 plans, and it seemed like we made sure to keep it interesting for them.

They crossed Nevada on The Loneliest Road in America, U.S. Highway 50. Entering from Utah and heading all the way across the state, they left Nevada at Lake Tahoe.

Along the way, they ran into a little trouble between Austin and Fallon, but made it out of there just fine after having a part repaired on their jeep. They also got some pretty good photos of the landscape and some of the towns they went through.

I’d love to invite them back to the state so they could spend a little more time in the towns they blew through. Heck, maybe if they’d taken a night to rest up in Austin, they’d have avoided the trouble they got themselves into before Fallon. Maybe not, but who knows.

Great write up!! We sure enjoyed our trip across the “Loneliest Hwy” and would really like to come back and see some of the things we had to pass by since we couldn’t shut the Jeep off…the Shoe Tree, Sand Mountain, Stokes Castle and many of the other sites we missed.

Thanks for the great write up and for telling part of our story. You folks have a great state and it was a big part of our story in so many ways, it was our pleasure to travel thru and we are trying to encourage others to travel the infamous hwy 50.
