Armed with 75,000 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs donated by Nevada Energy, 100 Harrah’s Entertainment employee volunteers are helping Nevadans become more energy efficient. During the March-April program, residents of selected neighborhoods in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and Laughlin, each will receive 12 CFL light bulbs from Harrah’s HERO (Harrah’s Entertainment Reaching Out) volunteers.
The statewide program will increase energy efficient lighting fourfold in a few weeks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving more than $4 million in energy costs.
Harrah’s Reno employees were to distribute nearly 20,000 CFL bulbs to local neighborhoods and community centers, with 1,000 bulbs going to each of the Reno/Sparks Gospel Mission, Reno Housing Authority and Salvation Army Social Services. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe handled distribution in both Nevada and California, and properties in Las Vegas and Laughlin will complete the statewide project in April.
Harrah’s Entertainment is the only gaming company to win an EPA Environmental Quality Award and to be named to the Dow Jones Global Sustainability Index. It is committed to the EPA’s Climate Leaders program.
