The 20th Annual Lake in the Sky Air Show takes flight at Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL), Saturday, Aug. 29, featuring some of the world’s top aircraft and aerobatics performers as well as new radio-controlled aircraft demonstration, Navy H-60 Seahawk helicopters and an Air Force C-17 Globemaster static aircraft display.

The affordable, family-friendly event complements the natural spectacular beauty of the lake, a plethora of outdoor recreation, headliner entertainment and comfortable summer temperatures to make for a memorable getaway to south Lake Tahoe.
Flying legends Bill Cornick, former U.S. Air Force pilot; Jon Melby, 32 years freestyle aerobatic air show pilot; and Spencer Suderman, known for intense gyroscopic maneuvers on the Pitts S-2B Biplane, will entertain spectators with aerial stunts and demonstrations. Celebrating its 20th year, the Lake in the Sky Air Show will enthrall all ages with an Air Force C-17 Globemaster static display aircraft – 170 feet long with a 170-foot wingspan – NAS Fallon (Top Gun), Search & Rescue aircraft, Navy F-18 Hornet Strike/Attack Fighter, Tahoe Blue Riders MC Motorcycle Show & Shine, and the No. 1 rated fighter plane of WWII – the legendary P-51 Mustang. There will be Young Eagles Flights (free flights for ages 8-17), CALSTAR helicopter flight simulator and a Kids’ Zone with inflatable bounce houses.
The opening ceremony will include skydivers surrounded by two Navy H-60 Seahawk helicopters, displaying the American flag. Cadets from the Civil Air Patrol will post the colors; the Blue Ribbon – Red Robbins Choir, an all-girls group, will sing the National Anthem and Will Allen “The Flying Tenor” will perform in his patriotic-colored Super Decathlon aircraft. Gates open to the public at 8 a.m. Pre-show events include a Kiwanis pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. and a 5K Race/Kids Fun Run at 9 a.m. Opening Air Show ceremonies roar overhead at 10:15 a.m. and concluded at 2 p.m. Food and beverages and a Chili cook-off hosted by the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club will be available throughout the day. Admission is $2 (children under 12 are free), and parking at the Tahoe airport is $10 (which includes admission). Free bus transportation will be provided by BlueGo from the South Y Transit Center where parking is provided at no cost. An additional shuttle departing from Meyers will be available. The Tahoe Valley Airport was recently selected by the FAA as the Most Outstanding Airport in the Western-Pacific Region, which includes all 400 public-use airports in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. Recently, Airplane Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) magazine selected the Tahoe Valley Airport as the leader in the greening of airports nationwide. The AOPA is the largest pilot organization in the world with approximately 750,000 members.
