The movie is about Las Vegas, the gambling empire. Robert DeNiro plays the fantastic bookie and casino boss, Sam “Ace” Rothstein. Joe Pesci plays his friend, Nicky Santoro. Sharon Stone plays Ginger McKenna, Rothstein’s trophy wife. Rothstein and Santoro were part of the mob that ran Las Vegas casinos. The movie is Casino and much of the movie was actually filmed in Las Vegas.
The tour is about the Sin City’s shady history and all the connections that the mob had in Las Vegas. Robert Allen is the “godfather” of the mob stories now. Adam is the gun carrying tour guide in the pin stripe suit and mobster fedora hat. The tour is the Vegas Mob Tour and you’ll experience all of it from a bus throughout the streets of Las Vegas.
I and some of my Nevada Commission on Tourism colleagues recently had the opportunity to take the tour. Everyone was mesmerized by the stories, documentary footage, and visits to sites of mob activity and mysterious murders. Besides Rothstein, we heard tales of mob hit men like Tony “The Ant” Spilotro and Frank Cullotta. We were taken to the Flamingo Hotel and saw a “hidden” monument in the outdoor garden area dedicated to gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel.
Adam, our tour guide, provided us with two-and-a-half hours of amazing information and sights about the mob and its existence in Las Vegas. It was a fantastic tour. Gosh, I wonder if Adam will be our guide the next time we take this tour. Now I fear for Adam. From this tour, I heard and learned what the mob does to people who know too much!
