Nevada Magazine’s January/February issue is available on newsstands throughout Nevada.Nevada Magazine is proud to announce the launch of its “Tour Around Nevada,” starting with the January/February 2009 issue, available on newsstands around the state.

The state’s official travel magazine will feature one Nevada community each issue and present town officials with a Tour Around Nevada certificate and customized Nevada Magazine cover. Verdi, a short drive east of Reno, is the debut town. Nevada Magazine will make a presentation to the Verdi History Preservation Society at the grand opening of the Verdi History Center (see photo here) on Saturday, January 10 at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Readers will determine which towns are covered next on the tour. Send your vote to editor@nevadamagazine.com with the town name and “Tour Around Nevada” in the subject line. Because they’re well known nationally, Las Vegas and Reno are excluded. Voting for the May/June issue (Battle Mountain will be highlighted in March/April) closes Friday, February 20.

Also featured in the latest issue is the cover story on Nevada’s wild-horse controversy, which delves into the issues surrounding the mustang population on the range and in adoption facilities managed by the Bureau of Land Management. If adventure is more your taste, you can read about the helicopter-ski outfit Ruby Mountains Heli-Experience, based in northeastern Nevada.

In addition to the Tour Around Nevada, new sections include History—learn about the fascinating and fiery history of Virginia City’s Piper’s Opera HouseGaming, and Business. The Events & Shows section, a comprehensive listing covering all of Nevada, is presented in a new by-date format, making it easier for you to plan your Nevada excursions.

Nevada Magazine has been telling the Silver State’s story for 73 years and is a division of the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

Congratulations on the excellent lead article by Charlie Johnson on Nevada’s Wild Horses. Very information and accurate. And, it was a great pleasure to introduce Charlie to some of our “closest friends, the wild horses!”
