The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will host a presentation commemorating the centennial of the Western Pacific Railroad in Nevada on Nov. 9.
The Western Pacific Railroad in Nevada is a presentation featuring the work of noted rail photographer/author and railroad preservationist Wayne Monger. Numerous railroad magazines and books have featured Monger’s work. A geologist by training, “Wayne’s photography is noted for its emphasis on the topography and industry of the region
Photographer Wayne Monger in which the railroad is pictured,” said Frank Ackerman, the museum’s Curator of Education. “The WP was the last ‘transcontinental’ railroad built in the United States linking West Coast points with the East. With nearly half of its route-miles in the Silver State, the Western Pacific Railroad was an integral part of 20th Century Nevada.”
Admission charges are $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors 65 or older. Children younger than eighteen, and members of the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum are admitted free. The museum store will be open for this event, which starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum operates steam-ups with historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad equipment on selected weekends throughout the year. The museum also participates in scholarly efforts, such as the annual Nevada Railroad History Symposium held in Carson City in October. Open Friday through Monday from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the museum is located on Route 395 at the south end of Carson City at the intersection of Fairview Drive.
