See Nevada 360 degrees at a time

A journalism professor at the University of Nevada has been traveling around the state off and on for several years working on a project. Howard Goldbaum has been shooting photos for himself and for the Online Nevada Encyclopedia’s website, which documents Nevada’s history and present through articles and photos. One of Howard’s staples is shooting what he calls “virtual reality” photos, where several shots are taken, usually by panning the camera with each shot, to create a 360 degree view. Sometimes he even shoots the 360 degree and tilts up and down enough to create a virtual sphere when all the photos are stitched together to make the finished image.

For a long time, it was difficult to find Howard’s work, even though I knew what I was looking for. But recently, he told me that he had built his own site and put it there. I was thrilled. You can now find these “virtual reality” photos Howard puts together at his own site, All Around Nevada. Take a look at some of the stunning imagery, and make sure to click around on the images themselves, as you can control which direction you’re looking by moving your mouse around. And if these images interest you in a way that makes you want to visit the location, that’s fine with us. While you’re at it, be sure to also take a look at some of Howard’s other work at Online Nevada. He has done some outstanding work in using old photographs and new ones to “morph” a scene into video showing the changes that have taken place over the years.

Thanks, Howard, for all the work you do for Nevada!
