Squaw Valley to open 60th Anniversary ski season Nov. 21

Squaw Valley ski resort is gearing up for a historic 60th Anniversary season celebration on opening day, Nov. 21, with a BASE jump from the top of the resort’s Cable Car performed by Birdman and Squaw Valley pro skier, JT Holmes. Ceremonies begin at 2 p.m. at the resort near Lake Tahoe.

Squaw Valley’s 2010 ski season also will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the resort’s historic hosting of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games. www.squaw.com

Festivities include:
2 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. — Birthday toast and celebration with ski pro Jonny Moseley on the KT Sundeck.
2 p.m. Mighty Mite parade and cake lighting
2:10 p.m.: Champagne toast by Squaw Valley USA Chairman and CEO Nancy Cushing
2:15 p.m.: Jonny Moseley toast
2:20 p.m.: JT Holmes BASE jump from the Cable Car
2:25 p.m.: Balloon release from the Funitel and 50/60 anniversary cake
2:35 p.m.: Screening of “Squaw Valley USA – 60 Legendary Years.” Followed by the movie “Flame in the Snow” and a gathering with DJ Paul at the Plaza Bar.

Opening day activities will include snow tubing at Papoose, ice skating at 8,200-foot High Camp from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and lunch and drinks at the Terrace overlooking Lake Tahoe from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift tickets include Cable Car service, available Saturday and Sunday from 10:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. with the last trip down the mountain at 4:40 p.m.
