Filed under: Did You Know?, LaughlinBefore a few weeks ago, I had never been to Laughlin, Nevada. Laughlin is a border town just across the Colorado River from Arizona. It’s also a popular destination for folks who want to get into Nevada for a little fun on the weekend. You can easily see that by the size of the resorts in Laughlin. They don’t strike you as a small-town border-type place to put up for a night, but rather pretty big-time places that are capable of handling some serious crowds and events.
Harrah’s Reno and Lake Tahoe Volunteers Walk Door-to-Door Increasing Carbon Fluorescent Bulbs in Nevada
Filed under: Did You Know?, What's HappeningArmed with 75,000 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs donated by Nevada Energy, 100 Harrah’s Entertainment employee volunteers are helping Nevadans become more energy efficient. During the March-April program, residents of selected neighborhoods in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and Laughlin, each will receive 12 CFL light bulbs from Harrah’s HERO (Harrah’s Entertainment Reaching Out) volunteers.
The statewide program will increase energy efficient lighting fourfold in a few weeks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving more than $4 million in energy costs.
Harrah’s Reno employees were to distribute nearly 20,000 CFL bulbs to local neighborhoods and community centers, with 1,000 bulbs going to each of the Reno/Sparks Gospel Mission, Reno Housing Authority and Salvation Army Social Services. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe handled distribution in both Nevada and California, and properties in Las Vegas and Laughlin will complete the statewide project in April.

New Travel Video is the Ticket to Carson City

A new video produced by the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau with well-known travel writer and videographer Erik Hastings invites armchair travelers to hit the road at www.visitcarsoncity.com.

The video will show travelers how to follow the history of Carson City along the famous Kit Carson Trail through the Historic District that features Victorian-era houses and mansions. Other points of interest include the State Capitol, Nevada State Railroad Museum, local restaurants and some of the area’s best antique shopping.

Las Vegas Strip is No. 2 in ‘Top-Ten Attractions in the U.S.’
Filed under: Did You Know?, Las VegasLas Vegas Strip has been chosen the No. 2 top attraction in the United States drawing 37.5 million visitors to the “Entertainment Capital” last year. Forbes Traveler.com selected Las Vegas as second only to New York City in its annual Top Ten Attractions in the U.S. survey. Forbes.com cited the “Neon Trail” of bright lights from famous resort hotels along the Strip.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority found about 80 percent or 30 million of its visitors had either stayed overnight or gambled on the Strip.
Tourism fuels Las Vegas, home to 17 of the 20 largest hotels, most with special themes. Visitors experience fine-dining, shopping, entertainment and recreation 24/7.

Airport Adds Non-Stop Flight to Minneapolis
Filed under: Did You Know?, RenoReno-Tahoe International Airport will begin nonstop service to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) June 6 through Sept. 6 with recently merged Delta-Northwest Airlines. Flights will connect with international flights in Europe and Canada. There currently is no non-stop airline service between Reno and Minneapolis.
The Saturday-only service will feature a 124-seat Airbus that departs MSP at 9:15 a.m. and arrives in Reno at 11 a.m. The return flight will depart Reno at noon and arrive in MSP at 5:20 p.m.
The new flight is consistent with the airline’s business practice of scheduling flights based on peak day and peak season.
Airport officials have been working to maintain and enhance air service in the current economic climate.
