Reno River Festival Makes a Splash
Filed under: Reno, EventsWe’re still recovering from all the fun we had over the weekend at the fifth annual Reno River Festival. We started the weekend early with a few dozen other vendors by setting up our booth on Thursday morning. This was the first time myself or Matt Brown, Editor of Nevada Magazine and fellow Traveling Nevada blogger, had set up a tent for an outdoor event—evidenced by the fact that we failed to realize that a 10-by-10-foot E-Z UP becomes a large kite when not weighed down with sand bags. Needless to say, we quickly learned our lesson.
Friday was the official start of the event, and our booth saw a steady stream of people interested in learning more about Nevada Magazine and the Nevada Commission on Tourism. We even had a couple of Traveling Nevada blog fans stop by. One of our most popular giveaway...
Reno’s Rock-n-River Half Marathon
Filed under: Reno, EventsThe minutes leading up to the start of a half marathon (or marathon) are some of my favorites of the whole event. Runners in little more than light, airy shirts and shorts huddle anxiously awaiting the gun, their arms and legs goose-bumped as much from the anticipation as the chill morning air. Some spend this time toying with their wrist monitors, others jump or jog in place, and others scan the crowd, looking for familiar faces, or size up the competition.
I like to think about numbers. Ninety divided by 13.1—average mile: 6 minutes 52 seconds, that’s all. 6:52, 6:52, 6:52…I obsess over it. If I repeat it enough, I have to remember it, and if I can remember it, maybe I’ll finish in 90 minutes.
At the first Reno Rock-n-River Half Marathon, May 4, more than 700 runners and walkers had their own goals. Some just...

The Reno Rodeo - June 19-28
Come see the wildest, richest rodeo in the west.

The Reno Rodeo: The wildest, richest rodeo in the west is held June 19-28. Photo by Belfast Brendy.June is a big month for rodeo fans. The Reno Rodeo runs from the 19th to the 28th of June and is a big one.
It kicks off with the traditional cattle drive which runs right through the northern part of Reno! From there it’s nonstop action for the next nine days.
There are exhibits, displays, vendors, shops and, of course, rodeoing. Top pros from the circuit come to Reno and compete for over prizes that make it the fourth largest rodeo in the U.S. Events include team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and more. With the pros competing each night, there is constant action and never a dull moment.
The rodeo is also a great place to...
Reno Welcomes Buckbean Brewing Company
Filed under: Reno, What's HappeningThe Truckee Meadows’ newest brewery opened its doors on April 11th to an eager, thirsty crowd of local media and business owners before officially opening to the public the following morning.

True to the descriptions provided at buckbeanbeer.com, the brews on tap were nothing short of delicious. The Original Orange Blossom Ale, zesty and refreshing, is a great spring or summer brew; light enough for the average beer drinker, yet still complex enough for the seasoned beer conneissuer. The Black Noddy Lager betrays its intimidating dark color with a smooth, toasty taste that even my companion, a sworn opponent of dark beers, couldn’t resist—she refilled her glass at least twice. A third, limited edition beer, Tule Duck Red Ale, is a...
