Lovers Invited to Tie the Knot and Lock their Love this Valentine's Day
Filed under: Traditions, EventsIt’s eternal—love, that is and even more so when it’s locked at Lovers Lock Plaza in Lovelock, Nev., home to the nation’s only love-locking “eternal” chain. This Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. lovers are invited to join other couples for the Plaza’s third Lovers Lock Anniversary Celebration with a wedding and vow renewal ceremony followed by love-locking
to serve as an everlasting reminder. Since its inception in 2006, lovers from around the globe have come to Lovelock to symbolically bind their love as part of an age old Chinese custom revised into Nevada tradition.

Pahrump Powwow Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Filed under: Events, TraditionsSince 1998, Pahrump Valley has celebrated the spirit and culture of the region’s earliest American Indian inhabitants with its annual social powwow.
The 10th annual celebration is coming up November 21 through November 23 at Petrack Park, on the corner of Highway 160 and Basin across from Home Depot, and incorporates tribal dancers resplendent in native dress, traditional songs, arts and crafts, tribal booths, and authentic Indian teepees. There will also be cash prizes of $6,000 each awarded to the winners of a dance competition and drum competition. The Grand Entry is scheduled between 11:30 a.m. and noon both Saturday and Sunday.

Dotti Cullen displays the quilt she donated to the Nevada Commission on Tourism. Photo by Steve WoodburyRecently a delightful woman and her husband dropped by the Paul Laxalt Building—home of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Nevada Magazine—with a charming quilt and a story to go with it.
Dotti and Ray Cullen told us how, about a dozen years ago, Dotti’s brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Debbie Halverson, and their young boys, four-year-old Christopher and eight-year-old Kim, joined Dotti and Ray on a trip across Nevada from their home in Fernley. The Halversons live in Washington, D.C., and Dotti was afraid that Nevada couldn’t compete with the attractions of our nation’s capital.
