Harrah’s Reno and Lake Tahoe Volunteers Walk Door-to-Door Increasing Carbon Fluorescent Bulbs in Nevada
Filed under: Did You Know?, What's HappeningArmed with 75,000 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs donated by Nevada Energy, 100 Harrah’s Entertainment employee volunteers are helping Nevadans become more energy efficient. During the March-April program, residents of selected neighborhoods in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and Laughlin, each will receive 12 CFL light bulbs from Harrah’s HERO (Harrah’s Entertainment Reaching Out) volunteers.
The statewide program will increase energy efficient lighting fourfold in a few weeks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving more than $4 million in energy costs.
Harrah’s Reno employees were to distribute nearly 20,000 CFL bulbs to local neighborhoods and community centers, with 1,000 bulbs going to each of the Reno/Sparks Gospel Mission, Reno Housing Authority and Salvation Army Social Services. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe handled distribution in both Nevada and California, and properties in Las Vegas and Laughlin will complete the statewide project in April.

Featuring three statue-like female performers adorned with elaborate make-up and costumes, the entertainment experience begins with a procession to the base of the cascading waterfall inside The Palazzo, where the transformation from statue to living fountain evolves. Characters perform in the waterfall fountain, moving in a dance of life. Delicate jets of water appear from their fingertips as a shimmering halo cascades from the crowns of their heads. Afterward, the performers exit the waterfall and pose for photographs, then proceed to The Shoppes at The Palazzo, where they are greeted by two living vine characters.
