Fireworks Mark the End of Summer at Lake Tahoe

Signaling the end of summer, the sky above south Lake Tahoe will light up with a spectacular fireworks show Labor Day weekend. But summer’s end doesn’t mean the fun is over; a new season of snow and ski is just around the corner.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Harveys Outdoor Summer Concert Series continues on high notes with legendary glam rockers KISS. Then the fireworks display will start at dusk on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The average temperature in September and October at the lake is in the low 60s with plenty of sunshine, and the lake will still be rockin’ its way toward winter with concerts and outdoor events.

On Sept. 6, the Neville Brothers perform at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, then David Allan Coe, the country “outlaw” legend, is set to romp and stomp Sept. 13. Lindsey Buckingham, a legendary solo artist for over 30 years and as a driving force behind Fleetwood Mac, returns to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Sept. 12 in the South Shore Room. The Grass Roots perform their classic ’60s and ’70s hits on Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Convention Center at The Horizon Casino Resort.

If biking is the choice activity, the 5th Annual Tour de Tahoe – Bike Big Blue is Sunday, Sept. 7. The Reno-Tahoe Territory of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Bike the West organize the 72-mile course that circumnavigates the lake with an 800-foot climb overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000-foot climb to Spooner Junction.

The adrenaline kicks in again Sept. 24-28 for the Lake Tahoe Marathon. The week of competition consists of a variety of races for all levels of athlete. Additional activities are the two-day Sports & Fitness Expo, Around the Lake & Course Tour, Sunset Pasta Cruise, Gourmet Finish Line Brunch, Saturday Night Awards Party and a Spectator Bus.
